LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – Visitation has been suspended at the Pulaski County jail in Little Rock in what is called an effort to help contain the spread of the coronavirus.

In-person visitation is suspended until further notice, the jail said in a news release late Friday, but video visitation with inmates is expected to be available next week.

There have been no confirmed or suspected cases of the coronavirus in the jail, the release said.

The number of novel coronavirus cases in Arkansas has risen to nine, Gov. Asa Hutchinson and state health officials announced Friday.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.

The vast majority of people recover from the new virus.
