ASUMH announces postponement of commencement ceremonies

Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) has announced the postponement of its 2020 commencement exercises due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement came Friday afternoon.Chancellor Robin Myers says the move is only a postponement, and the traditional May event will be rescheduled when health officials allow.

College graduation is such an important milestone to students and their families, Myers says he feels it is imperative to conduct commencement.

The institution has been conducting its classes in an online atmosphere since last month, when schools were shut down due to COVID-19. Myers explains how the move has affected ASUMH.

Despite the shutdown of classes, Myers says the college has remained active in the community, such as playing host to a feeding event Friday evening conducted by Mountain Home CARES and the Salvation Army.

North Arkansas College in Harrison and Ozarka College in Melbourne also announced postponement of their commencement exercises this week. Neither school has announced a date for rescheduling.
