During his regularly scheduled press conference Monday to update the state on COVID-19, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is expected to provide an update on schools in the state. Talk Business Arkansas reports Hutchinson will discuss an updated plan for schools which have been closed since March 15 due to the coronavirus. A week after closing schools, the governor extended the closure through April 17.

The governor told the publication “Obviously, we’re not going to reopen the schools when you’re continuing to go up in your cases.” He says he has been working with Arkansas Education Secretary Johnny Key to put plans together.

Talk Business Arkansas speculates Hutchinson can either set a new deadline to reopen schools, continue off-site instruction for the rest of the year or end the school year early.

The governor will speak Monday at 1:30 p.m., and the address will be carried live on KTLO-FM and Classic Hits 101.7.
