The 10-track collection was recorded at Clifford’s home in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and features contributions from one-time Norman Greenbaum collaborator Russell DaShiell on guitar and synths, and ex-Santana member Chris Solberg on bass and keyboards. Besides playing drums, Doug handled lead vocals throughout the album, which features a variety of melodic pop-rock, Southern-rock and hard-rock tunes that sound like they could’ve been destined for ’80s rock radio playlists.

In advance of Magic Window, Clifford is releasing two tracks as digital singles today — “Just Another Girl” and “Born on the South Side.” “Just Another Girl,” which premiered Thursday on Billboard.com, is a heartfelt power ballad with a soaring, catchy chorus.

“Born on the South Side,” meanwhile, is a Southern-flavored rock tune that features a guitar riff clearly inspired by the CCR song “Born on the Bayou.”

Reflecting on the timing of releasing Magic Window now, Doug notes, “We’ve seen some trying times in the last few years and we can all use some love and magic. I put my heart and soul into the positive messages on this album. This is a good time to share them with the world.”

Magic Window is just the tip of the iceberg of unreleased archival recordings Clifford plans to release. As for why he chose to put out this album first, he tells Billboard, “[Magic Window] was my best performance as a singer and a songwriter. It was a complete project for me; I wasn’t just the drummer in the band.”

Magic Window will be released on CD via CD Baby, and also will be available digitally and for streaming.
