Credit: Bill BernsteinLongtime Foreigner keyboardist Michael Bluestein has released a video featuring performing him a new solo song titled “Why Corona?” that finds him wittily reflecting on life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bluestein, who joined Foreigner in 2008, sings lead vocals and plays acoustic guitar and piano on the introspective-sounding track. The song’s lyrics, which were co-written by Bluestein and Lisa Maria Feige even include a reference to The Knack‘s “My Sharona,” which has been parodied a number of times since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
“My Corona/Got its hooks in me/Not Sharona/I’m all alone-a,” Michael sings. “My Corona/Got me quarantined/It’s getting colder/I’m all alone-a.”
The tune also features backing vocals by Tina Terry and cello by David Eggar, who has contributed to albums by artists including Paul Simon, Patti Smith and Elvis Costello.

In other news, Bluestein and Foreigner guitarist Bruce Watson recently launched a video podcast called V.I.B., or Very Important Beer, that you can watch on YouTube. It features the two self-isolating musicians playing some tunes and chatting about music and their favorite hops-based beverages. One of the episodes featured Cheap Trick drummer Daxx Nielsen as a guest.
Meanwhile, Foreigner recently postponed some U.S. headlining concerts scheduled for April, because of the pandemic. The band still is tentatively scheduled to head out on a European trek in June, while their 2020 Juke Box Heroes tour with Kansas and Europe is slated to launch on July 9 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
