The British singer, guitarist and songwriter first found fame as a teenager in his home country as the frontman of The Herd. Then, in 1969, he co-founded the popular blues-boogie band Humble Pie with Small Faces singer/guitarist Steve Marriott.
Going solo in 1971, Peter released four studio albums before releasing the two-LP live record that would catapult him into superstardom.
1976’s Frampton Comes Alive! spent 10 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 and featured the top-20 singles “Show Me the Way,” “Baby, I Love Your Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do.” It was the best-selling album of 1976 in the U.S., where it’s been certified eight-times platinum.
Frampton’s success continued in 1977 with his next album, I’m In You, the title track of which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, Peter’s career took a major downturn after he starred alongside The Bee Gees in the 1978 box-office bomb Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Frampton credits his childhood friend David Bowie with helping to revive his career when Bowie invited him to play guitar on his 1987 album Never Let You Down and Bowie’s ensuing Glass Spider Tour.
Peter has continued to tour and release new studio albums, but in 2019, he announced that he’d been diagnosed with a degenerative muscular disease that will eventually rob him of his ability to play guitar. He launched a farewell tour last June, and was supposed to kick off a new European leg this June that, unfortunately, has just been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Frampton’s currently is working on multiple recording projects, and will release a memoir, Do You Feel Like I Do?, in October.
