BMGThe Pretenders have debuted an official music video for “The Buzz,” the first single that was released from the band’s upcoming studio album, Hate for Sale, due out July 17.

The clip, which was created completely during the COVID-19 lockdown, was produced and directed by longtime Pretenders collaborator John Minton, who’s also worked with Noel Gallagher and Portishead, among other artists.

The video features blurry, kaleidoscopic, close-up footage of Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde, as well as of various scenes and images that evoke the song’s theme that love is like a drug. You can watch the video now on the band’s official YouTube channel.

“The Buzz” is one of three songs from Hate for Sale — along with the title track and “You Can’t Hurt a Fool” — that have been released digitally and via streaming services in advance of the record.

When “The Buzz” premiered last month, Hynde wrote about the song, “I think we all know that love affairs can take on the characteristics of drug addiction. ‘The Buzz’ is about that. Not mine, of course — I’m never obsessive never obsessive never obsessive.”

You can pre-order Hate for Sale now.

As previously reported, The Pretenders are scheduled to team up with Journey for a lengthy North American tour that’s currently slated to kick off May 15 in Ridgefield, Washington. Of course, the trek’s scheduling may tet be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
