If there’s one thing we’ve learned during the coronavirus crisis is that you can’t always get what you want. That being said, one thing we did get today is a brand-new song from The Rolling Stones!
The reggae-flavored tune, titled “Living in a Ghost Town,” is available now as a digital single and via streaming services. An accompanying video will premiere today at 2 p.m. ET at the band’s official YouTube channel, where you can watch a trailer for the clip now.
The track was recorded in studios in Los Angeles and London, and also from the band members’ homes as they self-isolated.
“So the Stones were in the studio recording some new material before the lockdown and there was one song we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now,” singer Mick Jagger explains. “We’ve worked on it in isolation. And here it is…I hope you like it.”
Adds guitarist Keith Richards, “So, let’s cut a long story short. We cut this track well over a year ago in L.A. for part of a new album, an ongoing thing, and then s*** hit the fan[.] Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now and so here you have it…Stay safe!”
In addition, drummer Charlie Watts comments, “I enjoyed working on this track. I think it captures a mood and I hope people who listen to it will agree.”
Putting in his two cents, guitarist Ronnie Wood says, “So we have a brand new track for you, we hope you enjoy it. It has a haunting melody.”
Jagger, Richards, Watts and Wood were joined on the track by longtime Stones touring bassist Darryl Jones and keyboardist/horn player Matt Clifford.
