Courtesy of Deborah AndersonFounding Yes singer Jon Anderson has written and sings the theme song to Women of the White Buffalo, a documentary directed by his daughter Deborah Anderson that looks at the struggles of several Lakota women who live on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
Deborah has launched a Facebook fundraising campaign to help her afford to release the award-winning film via a streaming platform.
The movie, which premiered at select film festivals last year, profiles eight Native American women ranging from the ages of 10 to 98 who reside on the second-largest reservation in the U.S., and one of the poorest.
The film focuses on the hardships and abuse the women have faced as they try to preserve their ancestral heritage and carry on its traditions.
Of her father’s contributions to Women of the White Buffalo, Deborah says, “Dad…has created a beautiful theme song for the film[,] which he sings with Delacina Chief Eagle. His voice is also featured throughout this important documentary film which I am currently looking to self-distribute.”
She adds, “I believe this is an important time to hear the wisdom of the powerful Native women featured in the film. It is time we understood the current situation of the Natives so we can raise their voices and stand with them in this much needed time of change on our planet.”
In a post on his Facebook page, Jon says Women of the White Buffalo is “an inspired documentary…that makes me tear up each time I’ve seen it.”
The singer currently has two concerts on his 2020 schedule, taking place June 29 in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and July 24 in St. Charles, Illinois. Both shows will see him perform with the Paul Green Rock Academy.
