A Norfork man has been arrested for stealing items from a rural Mountain Home woman, including her car and house shoes. Thirty-three-year-old Denver Lloyd Baumgardner Jr. was arrested while driving the car in Little Rock 11 days after the theft occurred.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office took a report April 12 from an 84-year-old woman on County Road 11, north of Mountain Home, concerning her car being stolen. The victim told the deputy she arrived home and discovered her vehicle was missing from her carport and the offender had also entered her home. Other items reported missing included $150 cash, the car keys, her coat and her house shoes.
A picture of the stolen car was posted on social media by the sheriff’s office, and the next day a motorist spotted it in the Arkana area. Law enforcement officers converged on the area, but there were no other sightings of the car.
On April 23, the Little Rock Police Department made contact with the stolen vehicle with Baumgardner driving the vehicle. He had two handwritten bills of sale, one allegedly showing the owner of the car selling it to someone and the second showing that person selling it to Baumgardner.
The owner of the car traveled to Little Rock to pick up her vehicle and was advised by the tow truck company there was an issue with the engine.
Baumgardner is charged with felony counts of theft by receiving and forgery in the second degree and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief in the first degree. He was also booked on a parole violation. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on bonds totaling $7,500.
