Sales tax revenue holding steady; impact of coronavirus looms

Sales tax numbers are holding steady in Baxter County and Mountain Home in the latest reports reflecting February collections.

Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize says while the numbers are expected to decline due to the financial repercussions of the pandemic,
year-to-date compared to projected revenues are up.

Over at the City of Mountain Home, Treasurer Marshella Norell says collections from the county were $170,006, up $14,567 or 9.37% from the prior year.

Year-to-date county sales tax received by the city is up $53,504 or 7.92%.

The city sales tax received in February was $392,849, up $29,985 or an 8.26% increase over the same month in 2019.

Year-to-date city sales tax generated is up 8.25%.

The public safety tax received was $147,318. The amount is up $11,244 over February of 2019 or an 8.26% increase.

The Baxter County sales tax in divided among the county and the eight municipalities. In addition to Mountain Home, Gassville took in $28,379, Cotter received $13,247, Lakeview got $10,120, Norfork took in $6,978, Salesville received $6,145, Briarcliff had $3,223 and Big Flat’s share was $1,420.
