Jeremy Westby/2911 MediaDon McLean has opened his vaults to make 11 of his studio albums available via all digital platforms for the first time since their original release.
The albums, which feature a total of 173 songs, are 1977’s Prime Time, 1978’s Chain Lightning, 1981’s Believers, 1989’s For the Memories, 1996’s Greatest Hits Live, 2001’s Don McLean Sings Marty Robbins, 2003’s The Western Album and You’ve Got Songs to Share: Songs for Children, 2004’s Christmastime!: The Complete Collection, 2005’s Rearview Mirror, and 2009’s Addicted to Black.
The digital releases are part of a new partnership between the “American Pie” troubadour and the Time Life company.
“Working with Time Life on this project has been the best thing that has happened to my recordings in years,” says the 74-year-old singer/songwriter. “Everything I have ever done will be available on all the streaming platforms out there. Therefore, any song of mine you may have heard will be available. I hope people will have fun finding new songs.”
McLean’s touring schedule may be on hold now because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the has big upcoming plans, including a new studio album titled Still Playin’ Favorites that’s due out in the fall. Don’s also preparing a 2021 world tour to mark the 50th anniversary of his signature song, “American Pie” and his hit album of the same name.
