Area ahead of last year’s record-setting rainfall totals

After 2019 went down as the second wettest year in Mountain Home history, could 2020 surpass it? It’s possible. Through the first four months of the year, the rainfall total for 2020 is 1.81 inches more than what fell last year in the same period. And, 2020 is now the second wettest in Mountain Home history for the period of January through April.

The month of April saw rainfall recorded 13 days at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. The rain totaled 6.94 inches, which was 2.81 inches above the normal rainfall of 4.13 inches for the month. The most rain was recorded on the 13th, with 1.87 inches.

Through the first four months of the year, 25.03 inches of rain have fallen. The normal rainfall through the end of April is 14.35 inches, meaning the area is 10.68 inches above normal. Last year, through the end of April, 23.22 inches fell, meaning in 2020, we are 1.81 inches ahead of last year’s pace.

The most rainfall ever recorded in Mountain Home through the first four months of the year was 27.43 inches in 1999, which means 2020 was just 2.41 inches shy of being the wettest January through April.

The highest temperature of April was 91 on the ninth. The lowest temperature was 29 on the fifteenth.
