You can check out a composite video of the performance on the band’s official YouTube channel. The clip features founding singer/guitarists Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston, along with longtime multi-instrumentalist John McFee on violin, and longtime touring bassist John Cowan. Simmons, who wrote and sings lead vocals on the tune, introduces the video.

The end of the performance features a variety of video clips of self-isolating fans singing the song’s repeated refrain, “I’d like to hear some funky Dixieland/ Pretty mama, come and take me by the hand…Gonna dance with your daddy all night long.”

A message on The Doobie Brothers’ social media sites reads, “Excited to share this very special rendition of ‘Black Water’ with all of you. Although it was performed in isolation, making this video made us all feel a little closer together. Thanks to all who contributed to the #DoobiesSingalong and made it possible!”

At the end of the video, Simmons announces that the band is partner with the Feeding America network, which supports local food banks across the U.S.

“Any amount you can donate will help make sure we can be there for our neighbors in need during this time of uncertainty,” Pat points out, and directs people to visit FeedingAmerica.org to find out how they can help the cause.

The Doobies are scheduled to launch a 50th anniversary tour on June 9 in West Palm Beach, Florida, that will feature ex-singer/keyboardist Michael McDonald rejoining the lineup, although the trek could be postponed because of the coronavirus crisis.
