Paul Kane/Getty ImagesSocial media lit up on Wednesday when Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose and U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin engaged in a brief but wild Twitter feud.
Rose, who has openly criticized President Donald Trump over the past few years, took aim at the Treasury secretary by tweeting, “It’s official! Whatever anyone may have previously thought of Steve Mnuchin he’s officially an a******.”
Mnuchin wasn’t about to take the insult lying down and fired back, “What have you done for the country lately?” He concluded his comeback with an American flag emoji.
Unfortunately for Mnuchin, that was his second comeback attempt. Some followers with lightning fast reflexes managed to screen shot his first retort, in which the Treasury secretary accidentally closed his retort using the Liberian flag emoji.
Axl, who rarely uses social media to begin with — as he’s only tweeted 311 times as of Wednesday — has yet to compose a response.
It is unknown was inspired the 58-year-old to launch a public attack against the official, but the insult is on par with his previous clashes with the White House.
Rose has previously tangled with President Trump, mostly over the president using GNR’s music at political rallies despite being met with cease and desist letters.
The frontman launched into a particularly passionate tirade in November 2018 by criticizing, “GNR like a lot of artists opposed to the unauthorized use of their music at political events has formally requested r music not b used at Trump rallies or Trump associated events.”
