This will be Bateman’s first opportunity to coach girls’ basketball. He comes to Salem after spending the past seven years as the boys’ coach at Tuckerman. Prior to his time in the Jackson County School District, Bateman was an assistant coach for the boys’ team at Bay for five years.

Bateman says one of the key differences between boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball is the speed of the game.

Bateman succeeds Scott Faulkner, who is staying with the Salem School District as a teacher and a part-time dean of students. Prior to his time with the Lady Greyhounds, Faulkner was the girls’ basketball coach at Calico Rock.

Bateman says this will not be the first time he follows a coach with a history of success.
