A Marion County man 49-year-old Steven Sheline has received a six-year prison sentence after he violated the terms of his probation in a theft of property case dating to 2014. At the time Sheline was arrested, court documents indicate he had a Harrison address.
Judge Gordon Webb revoked Sheline’s probation during a recent session of Marion County Circuit Court. Under the terms of the Marion County man’s sentence, he will be transferred to one of the state’s Community Correction Centers serving as a drug treatment facility for up to 18 months.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim in the case came to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 25, 2014 to file another report regarding stolen items from his turkey barns. The victim was given copies of items Sheline had pawned and was able to identify many items from the pawn sheets totaling $4,100.
Sheline had been arrested twice in connection with stealing items from the victim, with both resulting in misdemeanor charges.
The charges were dropped the first time due to Sheline working with law enforcement on other cases, and the victim agreeing. The victim had also allowed Sheline to continue working and living at his barn shop.
In the second case, the victim located numerous other items stolen and pawned, including a winch valued at $3,000, 100 feet of stranded copper well wire valued at $600, an AC/DC electrical transformer for a motor home valued at $300 and six electric motors valued at $1,380. The total amount of reported stolen items was approximately $9,000.
Sheline was originally sentenced to 10 years probation and ordered to pay restitution to the victim, along with fines, totaling $10,225.
Since that time, however, he has not paid any of the restitution. In addition, in 2017, Sheline was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Online court records indicate those charges were nolle prossed the following year based on further investigation indicating there was not sufficient evidence to convict the defendant.
