The owners of a downtown Mountain Home motel the city is seeking to raze have about two weeks to make a number of court-ordered repairs.

Last August, the Mountain Home City Council adopted an ordinance directing and ordering removal or razing of the Mountain Home Motel, located at 411 Main Street.

City Building Inspector Greg Ifland said, at that time, the city had received multiple complaints on the motel due to the lack of maintenance and the building’s condition. He cited the property being in violation of city ordinance.

Ifland said in a quick drive-by inspection it was noted rotted and falling fascia boards are all around the building, along with falling gutters and rotted siding exposing the interior walls.

In a letter from the City of Mountain Home to Brian Keith Ferguson, the motel property owner, he was advised he had 90 days to correct the cited violations and bring the property into compliance with city ordinances. It went on to say a follow-up inspection would be conducted in 90 days. If the issues were not addressed, the city would begin condemnation to remove the building.

In a complaint filed in Baxter County Circuit Court following the council’s action, it was noted the city is seeking to raze the building due to it becoming dilapidated, unsightly, unsafe, unsanitary, obnoxious and detrimental to the public welfare.

In an agreed temporary order filed last week, Judge Gordon Webb directs the defendants in the case, Brian Keith Ferguson and Daniel Lee Ferguson, to make a list of repairs by June 15.

The list includes replacing any and all rotted wood on the exterior of the building and caulking and painting the exterior. It goes on to say all work is to be completed “in a professional and workmanlike manner.”
