NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) – The Arkansas Travelers have “real” concern about the possibility there are no games this season.

“It’s not official yet,” said General Manager Paul Allen.

On Thursday, ESPN called the cancellation of the 2020 Minor League Baseball season a “near certainty.” The report also said hundreds of Minor League Baseball players have been released. The Seattle Mariners, parent club of the Travelers, have released more than 30, according to the Seattle Times. They will pay those that remain through the end of the season.

Baseball America stated that a lot of these players would have been released at the end of spring training, so I think that happens quietly.

“If another round happens, that becomes a little more clear.”

Allen said the Travs have backup plans if there is no season. He said the ball club is coming up with creative ways to use Dickey-Stephens Park, like a drive-in fireworks show.

“Everyday somebody comes up with something creative and something new,” Allen said. “We want to use the field. We want people to be able to get out there.”

What about following in the footsteps of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, and renting the stadium on AirBNB?

“We joked about it. It would be fun. They’re getting a lot of national attention for that.”
