When students at Mammoth Spring and Calico Rock elementary schools picked up their personal items recently, they were surprised with books provided by Twin Lakes Future Fund.

Each student in first through third grade received a packet with three books and a reading comprehension worksheet. Parents received a guide with suggestions for improving their child’s literacy.

Mammoth Spring school librarian Sandra Russell says students were excited to receive the books.

“This little guy tore open his package right away. He was so excited,” Russell says. “His mom told me that she had told him the night before that he was getting new books, and he said ‘Yes! I need new books. I already read all my others.'”

Twin Lakes Future Fund members have concentrated their efforts this year on the initiative to improve grade-level reading. This project was funded with sponsorships by Baxter Regional’s Hometown Health, North Arkansas Electric Cooperative, Yelcot Communications, Anstaff Bank and Twin Lakes Future Fund.
