With Monday marked as the beginning of the first phase for team sports to return in Arkansas, the Mountain Home High School football program will be practicing with limitations. The dead period set by the Arkansas Activities Association has ended, and the Bombers will have their first week of practice under their new leadership this week.

Mountain Home head coach Steve Ary says he and his squad are looking forward to getting to practice.

The team will have three sessions Monday and Tuesday for a total of one hour each day. Speed agility and quickness will start the day, and the players will later hit the weight room. The team will also work on offensive fundamentals on Monday.

The format will remain the same Wednesday and Thursday, but an extra half hour will be added to the practice time, as the defensive fundamentals will also be a focus.

Friday’s session will feature a Bomber combine. A bench press contest will be included, and 40-yard dashes will be timed. Drill work may also be part of the Friday activities.

Due to the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the return of team sports comes with specific restrictions that must be followed. Ary says thermometers have been ordered to check the athletes’ temperatures, and there is a checklist for him and his staff to follow.

The coronavirus has made it challenging for coaches across the country to prepare for the upcoming fall season, but Ary says the challenges are greater when a new staff is looking to show the team a new system.

The Bombers are expected to practice for the first three weeks of the month. Another two-week dead period is scheduled to begin June 21, and Ary says he’s looking for the team to return to practice July 6.
