Rainfall in 2020 is setting record after record, and the month of May is leading the way for the year. Not only was it the wettest May ever in Mountain Home, but the month went down as the fifth wettest ever, and the rainfall total for the first five months of the year has also taken over the top spot in history. On top of that, with seven months left in the year, we are just over 5 inches from reaching our annual rainfall total, as we are well over 20 inches above normal for the year-to-date.
At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service, a total of 14.95 inches of rain fell during May, obliterating the old record for the most rain in May by more than 3 inches. The previous wettest May was 11.87 inches in 1946, meaning May of this year set the new record by 3.08 inches.
May 2020 now ranks as the fifth wettest month ever in Mountain Home. The record for the most monthly rainfall is 16.87 inches set in April 1927.
During the first five months of the year, we have recorded 39.98 inches of rain, which is a new record for the most rain in that time frame. The old record was 38.65 inches set in 2008.
The spring rainfall, covering the months of March, April and May, totaled 28.67 inches, which ranks third all-time for that time frame.
