The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) provided an update Monday to realignments in its county offices announced last November. The changes have already happened or will occur by the end of August.

Baxter County is on the list of impacted offices. Three staff members moved from an annex location to the main office back in January, after the expiration of a lease.

At the time of the November announcement, DHS Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer Amy Webb said of all the changes being made by the department, Baxter County’s would be the most minimal.

The changes across the state are the result of a several month review by DHS’s divisions of County Operations, Children and Family Services, Youth Services, Child Care and Early Childhood Education, Developmental Disabilities Services, Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services as well as the offices of the secretary, finance, information technology and procurement. The goal of the review was to ensure the location of county offices matches where clients or potential clients are located and to ensure DHS is operating efficiently.

The office moves state-wide are expected to reduce leasing and utility costs by $246,500 a year.
