The sheriff of a northwestern Missouri county has died after his police vehicle
crashed as he was responding to help one of his deputies. The accident happened
around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, killing DeKalb County Sheriff Andy Clark. He was
43. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report says Clark was driving a
pickup truck on Missouri Route 33 near the town of Osborn. At the intersection
with U.S. 36, an SUV driven by 71-year-old Robert Carpenter of Diller, Nebraska,
struck the side of Clark’s pickup. Carpenter suffered moderate injuries and
three others in the SUV suffered minor injuries.  Sheriff Clark was not wearing a seat belt.
