Sales tax numbers strong in May in Baxter County, Mountain Home

Sales tax numbers continue to be strong in both Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home in the month of May, reflecting spending during March. The numbers are especially good considering the COVID-19 pandemic shut down many businesses during March.

At the City of Mountain Home, Treasurer Marshella Norell says collections from the county were $197,405, up $27,399 or 16% from the previous month. Compared to the same month last year, the tax collections are up $17,213 or 9.5%.

The city sales tax collected in March totaled $457,643, an increase of $64,794 or 14% from the previous month. Compared to the same month last year, the increase was $32,867 or 7.7%.

The Baxter County sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities. In addition to Mountain Home, Gassville took in $32,953, Cotter received $15,382, Lakeview got $11,751, Norfork took in $8,103, Salesville received $7,136, Briarcliff got $3,742 and Big Flat took in $1,649.
