SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – Springfield police shot a man after he hit an officer
with a car outside police headquarters. Police Chief Paul Williams says the man
became irate after being asked to leave the headquarters Tuesday. Police say
Officer Mark Priebe tried to flag the man down to stop him as he drove toward
the building. The suspect, 28-year-old Jon Tyler Franklin Routh, appeared to
intentionally strike Priebe, who was caught under the vehicle. Williams says the
man was shot after he refused to get out of his SUV. Priebe is hospitalized in
serious condition. Routh’s condition was not released. Investigators are trying
to determine Routh’s motives.
