New elementary principal hired at Gainesville

The Gainesville R-V School District will have a new elementary principal, following action by the board of education at its May meeting.A school district Facebook post says Erin Swofford has been hired for the position.Swofford comes to Gainesville from Ava Elementary, where she served as the assistant elementary principal and special education director.

Swofford grew up in Ava and graduated from high school there in 1990. She earned a nursing degree in the mid-1990s and worked as a registered nurse at Cox South and Mercy hospitals in Springfield before returning to Ava to work as a school nurse.

While continuing in that role, she earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Drury University and later a master’s degree in reading. She also earned a teaching degree and taught second grade at Ava Elementary School for 10 years while working toward her specialist’s degree in education administration from Lindenwood University in 2015.
