The Mountain Home High School prom, originally rescheduled to be held July 10 at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

High School Principal Brent Bogy says, “At this time, we do not feel confident that we would be able to host a prom on July 10 that met social distancing guidelines for a large group. We waited as long as we could to make this decision while also taking into consideration that many of our students have reserved suits and dresses, and need the opportunity to cancel those.”

District Superintendent Dr. Jake Long echoed Bogy’s sentiments saying, “This was a difficult decision, and a lot of thought and care was put into making it. Ultimately, graduation is scheduled to be held the week after the prom was scheduled, and hosting a memorable graduation ceremony is our top priority. We simply cannot take a chance that an outbreak of illness could occur following the prom that might get in the way of our seniors being able to graduate the following week.”

Seniors who purchased prom tickets will have the opportunity to request a refund by emailing junior class sponsor Dani Pugsley at dpugsley@mhbombers.com by July 10. Juniors who purchased tickets may email Pugsley to indicate if they would like to receive a refund or would like the school to hold their ticket funds to pay for next year’s prom tickets. All refund request emails must include the number printed on each ticket and a mailing address for where the refund check should be sent.

The faculty and staff at the high school are working on plans for a traditional graduation ceremony that meets the criteria set forth by the governor and the department of health. More information about the July 17 ceremony will be released in the coming weeks.
