Shooting at Army National Guard Armory in West Plains ruled accidental

A shooting Thursday afternoon about 4 at the Missouri Army National Guard Armory in West Plains has been ruled accidental.

A spokesperson for the West Plains Police Department says a member of the Missouri National Guard had been attempting to unload a personally owned handgun inside the armory when the incident occurred. In the process of unloading the handgun, the victim told officers the weapon discharged, with a single bullet striking him in the leg. The victim was transported from the scene by helicopter. His name is not being released.

The spokesperson says no criminal charges are expected to be filed.
