Monitoring a jail call has led to the arrest of a Stone County woman, 44-year-old Linda Edmondson of Mountain View, charged with a felony count of tampering with physical evidence and a misdemeanor of hindering apprehension or prosecution.
According to the probable cause affidavit, investigators with the Mountain View Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence along Webb Street June 22. The search was conducted for a firearm of a convicted felon living at the residence. The felon had been arrested the previous day for aggravated assault on a family member.During the search of a bedroom at the residence, Edmondson allegedly told officers she did not touch anything prior to the search. Specifically, she was questioned about removing anything from a backpack on the floor of the room.

She reportedly told officers, “No. I respect his things and would never touch anything.”

When asked if she knew about a firearm in the residence, Edmondson reportedly said, “No. I don’t like guns, and they are not allowed in the house.”

That evening jail personnel were monitoring calls into the facility when they heard an inmate identify himself as “Stretch” in a conversation with Edmondson. The inmate reportedly told Edmondson, “I’m calling for your boyfriend who is locked in his cell but can’t get to the phone, so I told him I would call for him.”

In the background, Edmondson’s boyfriend can allegedly be heard saying, “Tell her the black box that was in my backpack and the package that was coming today, take it somewhere and put it up.”

Edmondson reportedly says there is nothing to put anywhere, everything is good. They (cops) didn’t find anything. They found the clip from his gun and the holster.

She can then allegedly be heard saying, “Tell him I love him and tell him he should never say I don’t have his back.”

The affidavit notes another family member told law enforcement the black box contains a new firearm the boyfriend purchased.

Edmondson’s bond was set at $10,000.
