Newton County resident wins Chuck Morton Memorial

The Chuck Morton Memorial Junior Golf Championship wrapped up its two-day run Friday with a Newton County golfer taking the boys’ crown.

Dalton McGinnis of Deer ended up with the best overall score of four-under-par 140. McGinnes was competing in the 16-to-18 age group. In addition, Roby Cooper of Melbourne was eighth at 155, Nicholas Thiel of Harrison finished 16th at 168, Gaige Chaney of Mountain Home took 19th place at 172, Rip Finley of Mountain Home ended up 20th at 175, and Weston Hoover of Mountain Home was 22nd at 196.

Zach Gardner of Fayetteville finished at the top of the 14-and-15-year-old boys’ leaderboard with a two-day mark of 147. Max Hough of Mountain Home took 16th place at 191, and Aidan Sanders of Mountain Home ended up 17th at 231.

The 12-and-13 boys’ title went to Adam Squires of Little Rock with a total of 166. Jack Coleman of Mountain Home was second at 232.

A Mountain Home resident won the 10-and-11 boys’ title. Cody Cormican’s total after two nine-hole rounds was 100.

The overall winner on the girls’ side was Abbey Ott of Springdale, as she led the 16-to-18 age group at 149. Mountain Home was represented in sixth through ninth places as Ella Brashears had 187, Lauren Loving finished with 196, Madelyn Smith ended up with 216, and MaryBeth Rogero had 311.

Emmerson Doyle of Cabot took the 14-and-15 girls’ victory at 153. Sophie Love of Mount Pleasant was fourth at 196, and Reagan Webb of Mountain Home finished with 201.

The 12-and-13 girls’ title went to Yinyoe Yang of Conway at 154. Abby Edens of Mountain Home ended up third at 253.
