Preparations are underway for the fall semester at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, but with coronavirus cases continuing to rise, various options will be offered this August. The university will have in-person classes with social distancing, online classes and a combination of the two using Zoom Classrooms.

ASU-Mountain Home has had more time to prepare this semester for the “new normal.” During a recent episode of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM, Associate Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Community Relations Christy Keirn says faculty and staff had to work quickly when the virus hit in the spring.

The university is installing equipment in 34 classrooms in preparation for the semester. Keirn says every class on the schedule will have a combination of Zoom Classroom and spaced out seating depending on what the students’ preferences are.

Keirn says ASU-Mountain Home has already had some experience with Zoom Classroom through its computer programming/mobile development program.

ASU-Mountain Home will also continue to provide the usual online classes. Students in those classes will do their work via Blackboard and communicate with their instructors by email.

Some classes will require students to show up in-person for time in the laboratory. Nursing, automotive technology and welding are among those that will have to be taught on-site, but students will be brought in on a limited basis.

Students are being accepted for the fall semester beginning Aug. 17. For more information, contact ASU-Mountain Home recruiter Carla Stroud at cstroud@asumh.edu, or apply online at asumh.edu.
