Drug arrest made within 1,000 feet of school property

A Fulton County man, 55-year-old Curtis Dwayne Braden, has been arrested and charged with maintaining a drug premises within 1,000 feet of the Viola School District property.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers with the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force attempted to conduct a home visit at Braden’s residence on June 19. Braden is on active supervision, with a search waiver on file. Officers were unsuccessful on two attempts to make contact with Braden.

That evening, Fulton County Sheriff Al Roork met Braden on the road and followed him back to his residence. Other officers arrived to assist in the search of Braden’s residence.

Sheriff Roork reported Braden advised him there were drugs in the residence,and it was quite a bit of “weight,” but said it was for personal use.

During the search, officers allegedly located baggies with a crystalline substance field testing positive for methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia. They also reportedly located an undisclosed amount of currency throughout the residence and on Braden’s person.

While looking under the truck Braden was driving, officers reportedly located a black bag containing numerous baggies holding an additional substance field testing positive for meth.

Braden was charged with felony counts of maintaining a drug premises within 1,000 feet of a drug-free zone, possession with the purpose to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to analyze methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to ingest meth.

His bond was set at $50,000.
