Five inmates in the Baxter County Detention Center are accused of attacking a fellow inmate in retaliation for him beating up a seventh inmate, and a jailer was struck in the process. Thirty-year-old Alan Whitman, 24-year-old Kendrick Sebree and 38-year-old Mark Hansen of Mountain Home, 46-year-old Reynaldo Ochoa of Midway, 33-year-old Denver Baumgardner of Norfork and 27-year-old Christopher Lynne of Gainesville are each facing an additional count of third-degree battery.

A jailer and a deputy were escorting inmates outside from two pods for the inmates’ outdoor activity hour July 8. Ten minutes later, a group of inmates reportedly stated they wanted to go back inside due to the heat. The jailer noticed one inmate had a bloody nose and said, “I just hit my nose.”

As the inmate was being tended to in the booking area, the jailer observed two red circles on the back of his head. The jailer then watched surveillance playback and allegedly observed another inmate, identified as Whitman, run to the victim and hit him with his knee. The victim’s head reportedly ricocheted off the brick wall, and Whitman allegedly proceeded to punch him in the head.

The remaining inmates were escorted back to the pods around noon, and the jailer told Whitman to wait before entering the pod. As the last inmate was being returned to his pod, the door opened, and multiple inmates reportedly ran out of both pods to attack Whitman for his previous actions.

The jailer states he was rushed by several inmates trying to get to Whitman, and he started pushing them in an effort to defend Whitman and himself. The jailer also claims he was struck in the back of his head during the incident. A deputy soon arrived to help gain control, and the inmates were returned to the pods.

The inmates allegedly going after Whitman were identified as Baumgardner, Lynne, Ochoa, Sebree and Hansen.
