With one year left as a high school student, one local athlete has already decided to continue her playing career on the collegiate level. Mountain Home High School’s Kate Gilbert has announced she has verbally committed to join the women’s basketball program at Drury University in Springfield.

Gilbert is preparing for her senior year with the Lady Bombers. She helped lead Mountain Home to a 23-7 record and its second consecutive trip to the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament this past season.

Gilbert will be joining a Lady Panther team that spent the entire 2019-2020 season as the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, with a record of 32-0, but they were unable to play in the tournament due to COVID-19. Drury is getting ready for its first season under the leadership of Amy Eagan, after previous head coach Molly Miller left for the same position at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.

Kate Gilbert is the daughter of Tony and Sally Gilbert.
