Municipal filing period opens with a rush

In the first three hours of the municipal filing period beginning at noon Wednesday, 13 candidates delivered their petitions to the Baxter County Clerk’s office.

In Mountain Home, two new names surfaced, with five incumbents.Police Chief Carry Manuel filed for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat, while Rex “Lynn” Anderson filed for Ward 4, Position 2. These seat are now held by Don Webb and Eva Frame, who have both indicated they do not plan to seek reelection.Also filing in Mountain Home were incumbents Bob Van Haaren (Ward 1, Position 1), Jennifer Baker (Ward 2, Position 1), Wayne Almond (Ward 2, Position 2), Paige Dillard Evans (Ward 3, Position 1) and Jim Bodenhamer (Ward 4, Position 1).

At Gassville, the lone filing came from incumbent Jeffrey Lewis for the recorder/treasurer’s position.

At Cotter, incumbent Charles Sugg filed for the Ward 2, Position 1 seat, while Linda McCarthy filed for Ward 2, Position 2.

Filings for the Lakeview City Council included incumbent Brenda Newell for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat and Janet Castillo for Ward 2, Position 2.

At Briarcliff, the lone filing came from incumbent Recorder/Treasurer Renate Schmitt.

In Marion County, five candidates filed for office.

In Bull Shoals, incumbent Recorder Tina Bailey was one of two filing for office. The second filing came from Roy Bull for the Ward 2, Position 2 on the city council.

At Flippin, Heath Hogan was the lone filer. Hogan filed for the Ward 2, Position 1 seat he holds on the city council.

Two incumbents, Cindy St. Clair and Wendy Nelson, filed for seats on the Pyatt City Council.

The filing period remains open until next Wednesday at noon. Election Day is scheduled for Nov. 3.
