The deadline for parents and guardians to choose their learning model for their students for the start of the 2020-21 academic year at Mountain Home Public Schools is fast approaching.Friday is the deadline that parents must submit their preference between the On-Site Blended Learning and Bomber Virtual Academy Remote Learning.

The On-Site Blended Learning plan allows students to primarily attend school as normal, but is designed to allow instruction to switch to online learning due to an COVID-19 outbreak, inclement weather or any school-related emergencies.

“Blended learning students will use our online learning management system, Canvas, consistently during on-site instruction so that they will be familiar with the system in the event that they must transition to remote learning,” the district says in a statement. “Blended learning students might also be scheduled in some on-site classes and some off-site classes if they have transportation available to and from school during their scheduled periods.”

Remote learning is simply students in the district who will access all learning online.

Superintendent Dr. Jake Long says the Bomber Virtual Academy, along with any online learning needed for blended students, is much different than the Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) system used to finish the previous school year.

Long says the district’s policy is to allow parents to make their own decision on the learning model, and that some consideration can be given to changing the choice for students after school begins.

Director of Student Services Ron Czanstkowski will handle the appeal process.

The district is sensitive to the strains the COVID-19 pandemic is putting on students and families, Long says.
