Truck loses wheel, veterans monument damaged at courthouse

A snapped axle caused a wheel and tire to fall off a truck, causing considerable damage to a portion of the Veterans Memorial wall at the Baxter County Courthouse and destroyed a decorative light pole, according to the Mountain Home Mayor’s Office.

The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. when a Ford F-150 pickup with a lift kit lost the passenger-side tire and wheel on Main Street, near the location of the Mountain Home Motel. The tire and wheel continued down the street, shooting through the intersection at Sixth and Main before striking the memorial and destroying the light pole.

“It’s a miracle that no one was injured and no cars parked at the courthouse were damaged,” said Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams.

Mountain Home police are continuing to work the scene of the accident, the mayor said.

No further details are available at this point.
