Pocahontas boys, Greers Ferry West Side girls lead 1st day of Cougar Classic

Izard County High School began its golf season Tuesday by hosting the Cougar Classic. The first day of competition was at the Golf Course on Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend.

Pocahontas is the first day leader on the boys’ side with a total of 260. Izard County is second at 300, and Salem is fifth at 360. Skylar Prater of Pocahontas is at the top of the individual leaderboard with an 84. Among the local golfers, Landon McBride of Izard County is third with a 90, Elijah Wilkes of Izard County stands in fifth place with a 93, Salem’s Keaton Bassham is 11th with a 107, Noah Stevenson of Izard County is 15th with a 117, Parker Dillard of Salem stands in 17th place with a 124, Izard County’s Hayden Lewis is 18th with a 127, Connor Bullard of Salem is 19th with a 129, and Connor Henderson of Salem is 20th with a 130.

The girls’ team standings are being led by Greers Ferry West Side with a total of 273. Salem is fourth at 340. West Side’s Emma Johnson is the individual leader with an 88. For Salem, Jaiden Strong is tied for ninth with a 109, Morgan Johnson is 11th with a 115, Jaycie Strong stands in 12th place with a 116, and Chloe Taylor is 13th with a 119.

The tournament will conclude Wednesday at the Cherokee Village South Course.
