An ordinance which would allow restaurants in the city to serve mixed drinks if authorized by state agencies, tops the agenda for the Mountain Home City Council’s regularly scheduled session Thursday evening. The meeting begins at 6 in the council chambers of the Mountain Home Municipal Building. The ordinance states, “Restaurants located within the city limits, with the approval of the Department of Finance and Administration and the Alcoholic Beverage Control division, may sell mixed drinks.”

A recent vote on allowing a restaurant under construction in the city brought to light that cities in wet counties could authorize the sale of mixed drinks in restaurants, without the issuance of a private club permit by the state.

Two related ordinances are on the agenda as Buncles Club, Inc., located at 1406 U.S. Highway 62B, and Frog Club, Inc., located at 1310 U.S. Highway 62B, have applied for private club licenses. Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams says if the opening ordinance is passed and the emergency clause enacted, the private club permits will be removed from the agenda.

The city also plans to hear an ordinance creating the position of fire marshal in the city, as well as one which will set park hours at the Dr. Ray Stahl Soccer Complex.

Also on the agenda are a certificate of accreditation for the Arkansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program; a resolution by the city supporting a proposed amendment which would continue to levy a one-half percent sales tax for roads in the state; and a resolution in support of “Fair, Direct Federal Emergency Support to reopen and rebuild local American economies.”

A request to approve an auction list and adjustments to the 2020 Street Department budget will be discussed.
