All athletics in the Salem School District are set to resume Monday, following a recent positive test for COVID-19. The announcement comes one day after officials advised one of the school’s sports was suspended until Aug. 21.

According to Salem High School head football coach Josh Watson, the athletes considered in close contact with the individual who tested positive were not in that classification, following a re-evaluation from the Arkansas Department of Health. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette had reported Thursday football practice was suspended for two weeks.

In addition, the Greyhounds’ scrimmage with Piggott is back on for Aug. 25, after it had been canceled. Salem’s junior high scrimmage remains canceled, but Watson says they’re looking for a replacement.
