Thompson Square

Thompson Square, whose single “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart, will be the featured act at Saturday’s Baxter Summer Concert Series in Mountain Home.

The free event opens at 6 at Hickory Park, with a live D.J. to spin tunes at 6:30, and opener Walker Montgomery hits the stage at 7. The headline act will start its show at approximately 8:15.

Thompson Square is the husband-and-wife duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson. The pair met as solo singers in Nashville before combining to break through with their self-titled debut album in 2010.

Written by David Lee Murphy and Jim Collins, Thompson Square’s single “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” was released July 12, 2010, and in addition to climbing to No. 1 on the country chart, charted at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single also hit No. 1 in Canada.

The song would end up certified as double platinum and earned the duo two Grammy nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards. Thompson Square was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song, where they were bested in the latter category by Taylor Swift.

Thompson Square’s second album spawned the hit single “If I Don’t Have You,” which was hit No. 1 on the U.S. Country Airplay Chart, No. 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart and No. 14 in Canada. A second single, “Everything I Should Be Thinking About” was a Top 10 smash on Country Airplay charting at No. 4 and reached No. 15 on the Hot Country Chart.

Attendees may bring lawn chairs and blankets to Saturday’s event as seating, but coolers and pop-up tents are not allowed. Handicap parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Other parking is available at Farmers & Merchants Bank, the city parking lot and south on Fifth Street.

The event follows all directives from the Arkansas Department of Health. Those attending should bring their own masks or face coverings for use when physical distancing is not possible. Physical distancing of 6 feet is still required from person to person or family group to family group.

Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams says there is plenty of room in the park to safely enjoy the show.
