A last minute change to the ballot in a municipality in Boone County developed as the filing period was closing this week.

Hometown Daily News reports in Alpena, A.J. Womack withdrew from running for his board of alderman position, after being appointed as the town’s mayor earlier in the week. The appointment followed the resignation of Theron McCammond as the town’s mayor and the discovery his property believed annexed into the municipality in 2017 was still in the county. McCammond was elected in 2018 and has been serving as the mayor since taking office in 2019.

Other developments had led to an effort to place a petition on the upcoming election ballot to force McCammond’s removal from office.

While the petition to force McCammond’s removal from office has been withdrawn, a similar measure is underway in Diamond City. Voters there are being asked to remove Mayor Linda Miracle in the November election. Miracle and the city council have been at odds over a number of issues over the last year.
