Bella Vista resident leads 1st round of Big Creek Stroke Play Championship

A Bella Vista resident had the best opening round during the Arkansas State Golf Association-designated Big Creek Stroke Play Championship. Bob Brooks leads the super senior division after shooting a five-under-par 67 Saturday at Big Creek Golf and Country Club. Mike Machado of Mountain Home is third with a 76.

The open division has a tie at the top of its leaderboard, after Trevor Brunson of Lowell and Zach Shirley of High Ridge, Missouri, each shot a four-under-par 68. Mountain Home’s Luke Jackson is in 14th place with an 87.

Greg Connell of Russellville is leading the senior division with a four-under-par 68. Michael Cole of Mountain Home stands in eighth place with an 80.

An area resident has the lead in the mid-amateur division. Tod Rose of West Plains ended the first round with a 73.

Doug Schumacher of Siloam Springs has the lead in the masters division. Schumacher ended up with a 78.

The full leaderboard can be found here. The final round of the Big Creek Stroke Play Championship will get underway Sunday at 8 a.m.
