Arkansas State Police say city officer fatally shot man

CABOT, Ark. (AP) – A man who was shot by a central Arkansas police officer has died, Arkansas State Police said in a statement Friday.

The a news release said Jeffrey Wratten, 37, died at a Little Rock hospital where he was taken after being shot by a Cabot officer Thursday afternoon.

The release says police had been looking for Wratten after a family member expressed concern about his well-being and that he was driving a vehicle stopped by the Cabot officer about 25 miles (40 kilometers) northeast of Little Rock.

The officer shot Wratten when Wratten got out of the vehicle holding a shotgun and did not put down the weapon, according to state police, who are leading the investigation into the shooting.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was not injured and is on paid leave.
