While many events in the Twin Lakes Area have been canceled due to COVID-19, one large event will take place. The 2020 Marion County Fair and Livestock Show will be held Sept. 1-5 at the fairgrounds in Summit, but due to the pandemic, activities will be limited.

This year’s fair will only have livestock shows, a livestock auction and exhibits for creative arts, horticulture and field crops. There will be no carnival, parade or Miss Marion County Pageant for 2020.

The creative arts, horticulture and field crops exhibits can be entered Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Judging will begin Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m., and exhibits will be released the following day. The public will not be allowed to view the exhibits, and the building will be closed for judging.

Livestock will be entered Sept. 3 from 2 to 7. Animals must be checked in, weighed and in place by 8. Livestock can be viewed by the public when they’re not being prepared for the shows. A path will be marked through the barns for one-way traffic, and social distancing will be required. Hand sanitizer will also be provided at the entrances and exits to the barns.

Poultry judging will be held Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. The sheep, meat and dairy goats and swine livestock shows will get underway at 5:30. The dairy and beef cattle show will start Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. and will continue until completed. The livestock auction is set for 6 p.m. All livestock will be released at the conclusion of their shows unless they advanced to the premium sale.

There is no admission charge for the fair. More information can be found online at marioncountyfair.org, and Marion County Fair Manager Sherry McFarland may be contacted at Summit City Hall at 870-449-4332.
