The City of Mammoth Spring has received a $200,000 grant to build a new senior center.

Areawide Media reports the no-matching fund grant through White River Planning and Development will allow for a new senior center facility to be built on the city property next to the Mammoth Spring ambulance building.

Plans are still in progress for the size of the building, but officials say they would like for the facility to include a kitchen, recreational room, and entertainment room.

Mammoth Spring Senior Center Director LaDonna McGhee says those who made the decision about the grant said it was a “worthy cause.” McGhee most definitely agrees. She says, “We are up here on this hill, and we have no parking.” She says she is looking forward to being able to have a functioning kitchen, so the center can provide its own meals once again.
