Arrest follows discovery of marijuana grow set-up, part of 8 felony charges

A Fulton County man, Wesley Sims of Mammoth Spring, has been arrested after officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Mammoth Spring Police Department and the Arkansas State Police reportedly discovered a marijuana grow operation at his residence. Sims’ age was not provided in online court documents.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers from the three agencies executed a search warrant at Sims’ residence on Aug. 15.

During the course of the search, they reported locating a large bag containing a green vegetable material on top of a pistol in the master bedroom. Next to the bed in that room, they located a safe containing numerous firearms.

As the search continued, the officers located a baggie containing a crystalline substance, two with numerous oblong pills, two with a greenish brown powder, several holding clear capsules with a greenish brown powder and numerous items of drug paraphernalia commonly used for the ingestion of marijuana and methamphetamine.

The green vegetable matter was identified as marijuana, while the crystalline substance field tested positive for meth. The white oblong pills were identified as acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride, Schedule II substances.

The greenish brown powder was identified as Kratom, a Schedule I controlled substance in Arkansas.

In a spare bedroom, officers located a growing tent, grow lights, timers, an exhaust system and numerous small pots containing soil. Documentation on the wall in the bedroom noted different planted strains of marijuana.

Outside, officers located a suspected marijuana grow, with numerous plants. The plants were covered with netting and a camouflage fabric around the pots.

Sims has been charged with felony counts of maintaining a drug premises, six drug possession charges, including three for the purpose of delivery, and a simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms charge. He also faces a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. HIs bond was set at $50,000.
