Many families in the Twin Lakes Area and throughout the country are struggling to afford the basic necessities, including food. But, one local public school district will provide a service to help its kids and its community. The Izard County School District will offer free breakfast and lunch to all students beginning Tuesday, regardless of income, and that is set to continue for the next four years.

Izard County Superintendent Fred Walker says district officials have been considering this move for a while.

The district has budgeted $60,000 to offset the cost of providing the meals for this school year. Izard County will have to budget each year to provide meals to all students, but Walker says the district is committed to making that work.

In addition, the district will provide free meals to all virtual students on a weekly basis. Parents and guardians will still need to complete the 2020-2021 household application. For more information, contact the Izard County School District office at 870-258-7700.
