An Independence County man, 32-year-old Brandon Ray Brokaw, has been arrested after officers reportedly struggled with the Batesville man four times, twice as he tried to shove methamphetamine into a body orifice.According to the probable cause affidavit, deputies from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a reckless driver entering Mountain View on Arkansas Highway 14 Wednesday afternoon. The caller advised the vehicle almost struck a child getting off a school bus.The deputies and a patrolman from the Mountain View Police Department made contact with the driver, later identified as Brokaw, in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant.

The patrolman reported the odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle, with open alcoholic beverages inside.

Brokaw is on parole with an active search waiver on file. One of two passengers, a female, later identified as Kourtney Shiver, gave the patrolman a false name. All were detained for open containers of alcohol, as the investigation continued into the female’s identity. All were described as nervous.

It was determined Shiver was wanted for failure to appear in Independence County and was on probation. The other passenger, Waylon Moser, was also on probation. Their ages and addresses were not contained in the report.

Brokaw was placed in an Arkansas State Police trooper’s vehicle. Upon arrival at the Stone County jail, the trooper was removing Brokaw from the patrol unit when he observed a tube with a baggie of methamphetamine. He told Brokaw, “You dropped your meth” and the Batesville man began tearing at the bag and smashing the contents.

After a brief struggle with numerous officers, the meth was placed on top of a file cabinet. As the officers washed their hands due to the exposure to the drug, Brokaw broke loose, grabbed the baggie and began shoving it into a body orifice.

When the officers took Brokaw into the booking room and attempted a strip search, they struggled again with the inmate as he appeared to attempt to hide the meth in the body cavity. Some of the substance fell from the torn bag, and Brokaw mashed it.

Brokaw was taken to the hospital in fear the substance could overdose him. During a third struggle at the hospital, as officers attempted another search of Brokaw, three baggies of the illegal substance fell to the floor. A fourth fight ensued, with Brokaw managing to attempt to destroy the drug.

Brokaw reportedly took a drink of water and began spitting on the officers and the drug on the floor in a further attempt to destroy the substance.

In addition, one of the officers reportedly sustained skinned knees, a bruised elbow and an injured shoulder. A second officer sustained an injury to his hand, as well as having saliva and meth on his uniform and skin after rolling on the floor with Brokaw.

Brokaw reportedly said, “It’s all contaminated now, and you can’t charge me.”

Officers were able to collect 11 grams of meth to be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

Brokaw is charged with

– Tampering with physical evidence (three counts), Class D felony

– Furnishing or possessing prohibited articles in a correctional facility or detention center, Class C felony

– Aggravated assault upon a law enforcement officer (three counts), Class D felony
